Computers sitting unused →
Doing some research into education organizations today and I stumbled across this site.  Amazing how much alike SE DC and South Africa are. (At JC Nalle, the urban elementary school where I taught in DC, we had a whole computer lab with 15 computers and 4 printers, but when the kids started disconnecting the equipment the door was locked.  It sat unused for the 1 1/2 years I worked there. ...

Today while P. and I were eating lunch out on the back porch, a bird got stuck in our electric fencing.  It was frozen in the wiring, and the electricity was shocking it over and over again.  I couldn’t believe how sad the whole thing felt.  Phil got a wooden broom handle and knocked it loose, but it was dead.  I couldn’t eat after that.

Neighbor dogs
We have two friendly compound dogs, which I like to think of as “my” dogs.  It’s really the best possible scenario:  I get to play with them but have none of the pet-owner responsibilities.
