Computers sitting unused →
Doing some research into education organizations today and I stumbled across this site. Amazing how much alike SE DC and South Africa are.
(At JC Nalle, the urban elementary school where I taught in DC, we had a whole computer lab with 15 computers and 4 printers, but when the kids started disconnecting the equipment the door was locked. It sat unused for the 1 1/2 years I worked there. ...

And as long as we’re talking about it, any one else think USAID Southern Africa’s website needs some serious work?!?!
Sad
Today while P. and I were eating lunch out on the back porch, a bird got stuck in our electric fencing. It was frozen in the wiring, and the electricity was shocking it over and over again. I couldn’t believe how sad the whole thing felt. Phil got a wooden broom handle and knocked it loose, but it was dead. I couldn’t eat after that.

Baby!
For those of you who don’t already know, I’m back in the US for a while (although P. is still working hard in SA). The latest news is that my sister and brother-in-law gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Hazel Dahlia.
I’m a very happy aunt and sister. I’m so pleased to be on the continent for this event.

What's Been Happening
Just returned from a second visit to Cape Town, this time for P.’s work. He was asked last minute to assist with the preparations for Secretary Clinton’s visit to a housing project that USAID has supported. I decided to go along, because, well, I didn’t have anything better to do. Besides, Cape Town is gorgeous and much more safe and relaxed than Pretoria, which means I spent...

Kruger.
Just back from a trip with our visitors, I. and L. We stayed in a little bungalow/cabin for two nights and drove ourselves around the park each day in our little car. Here’s more info about the park.
